Big Idea Turns Balloons Into New Ad Vehicle Kevin D. Taylor, Radio Shack's district sales manager for Orange and Los Angeles counties, last month bought a 20-foot floating blimp for a one-week test at the company's Garden Grove store, near the Garden Grove Freeway. Sales for that week soared 100% over the corresponding week last year, he said, and for the month sales were up 53% contrasted with the same period a year earlier. Taylor said he like Zimmer's no-nonsense but amicable approach to business. He especially appreciated his efficiency in delivering the balloons early. O.C.

The
customer response to the blimp was overwhelming. The walk-in
business was more than double of any of my other stores, and
customers calling in for delivery wanted the special we advertised
on the banner hanging down from the blimp.

Because
my boat dealership is located on the water and not in close proximity
to major roadways, we sometimes find it difficult to get people

it's great! I can't tell you how much exposure it's given us during
special events and live remotes. Kids love it... Clients love
it... Our listeners love it... It's fun! It truly puts us far
above our competition!

Although
business has been good, it has been better in previous years.
I am proud to say that since purchasing the BLIMP one month
ago, our sales have increased by an average of 1 1/2 units per
working day. In the first two hours that the blimp was up,
I personally received phone calls from ten business people, inquiring
as to where they could purchase a BLIMP.

We
launched our blimp four weeks after opening our new STAR MART/TACO
BELL/SUBWAY multi-branded facility. Although we were consistently
increasing our sales, when we launched the blimp the sales
figures jumped 25% that day and our growth rate nearly doubled.
After being open three months we are approaching our daily sales
goal for the twelve month mark. From now on my first marketing

BLIMP is scheduled throughout 1996 almost every week. It is the
best money we have ever spent. It attracts attention and helps
our listeners find our event... KWKW gets great visibility.

the BLIMP is flying, we are constantly seeing new faces in the
store... Since our investment, we have noticed a 17 to 20% increase
in our sales when the BLIMP is in flight. I would say that
figure alone makes it a great investment.

I
